A few weeks ago we provided a few home maintenance tips to keep your home in safe and good operating condition. A good trigger for remembering to do this maintenance is at the end of Daylight Saving Time as you adjusted your clocks. Included on the list is the recommendation that you consider the installation of down spout extensions to direct rainwater runoff from your roof away from your foundation.
Poor drainage can cause excessive pressure on your foundation and variations in soil moisture levels are considered the leading cause of foundation repairs.
If your home does not have a below-grade drainage system, installing downspout extensions is a relatively quick and affordable way to divert water away from the foundation. Extensions of varying lengths are readily available at hardware stores.
With the current stormy weather, we thought we would provide another timely reminder.
